Curriculum

Day 1 — Materials

  • Clay mineralogy basics
  • Evaluating local clay deposits
  • Tempering and particle-size control
  • Forming methods — soft mud, stiff mud, dry press

Day 2 — Firing

  • Drying before firing — why warped bricks die here
  • Kiln types — clamp, Hoffmann, tunnel, downdraft
  • The firing curve — heat-up, vitrification, cool-down
  • Fuel choice and cost

Day 3 — QC & Economics

  • 15-point GBQS inspection method
  • Water absorption and compression testing
  • Production costing per brick
  • Partner supply agreements with GhanaBrick

Runs bi-annually at a partner kiln near Kumasi. Intensive three-day field programme.

Basic literacy and numeracy. Interest in production/manufacturing.

Certification

GhanaBrick Production Operator certificate. Graduates with strong results are invited to join our Partner Kiln Network.
